Mr. Mitchell is admitted to practice before the Louisiana Supreme Court, and all Louisiana State District and Appellate Courts. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Mr. Mitchell is also admitted to the United States Court of Federal Claims. Mr. Mitchell has been admitted pro hac vice (on a temporary, case by case basis) in Mississippi and Alabama.

Areas of Practice

Mr Mitchell is one of approximately 13 lawyers in Louisiana to be Board Certified in Medical Malpractice Cases by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. Although Mr. Mitchell has focused his practice primarily in the area of Medical Malpractice, he also practices in the areas of Automobile Accidents, Products Liability, Premises Liability and Maritime Law.

Education/Training

Mr. Mitchell was born in Mobile, Alabama on April 7, 1963. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He attended Louisiana State University, The Paul M. Hebert, School of Law (pictured above) from which he obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1989.

During law school, Mr. Mitchell was awarded the Outstanding Oral Advocate award by Mr. F. Lee Bailey during the F. Lee Bailey National Moot Court Competition. Mr. Mitchell's team placed second in the country. Mr. Mitchell was also a member of the National Moot Court Team and was a finalist in the school's Flory Trial competition.

Mr Mitchell was featured in April 23, 2012 edition of Newsweek Magazine as one of the Nationwide Leading Attorneys in Medical Malpractice. Mr. Mitchell was also just selected for inclusion in the 2012 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Selection to Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive and rigorous peer-review survey comprising more than 3.9 million confidential evaluations by top attorneys.

Mr. Mitchell was also just selected for inclusion in the 2012 edition of Louisiana Super Lawyers in the area of medical malpractice. Only 5 percent of the attorneys in the State of Louisiana are named to the very prestigous list.

Mr. Mitchell was also selected as a National Finalist of the Lawdragon's Annual Guide to the Leading Lawyers in America. Approximately 3,000 lawyers are awarded the status of National Finalist each year out of the 1.1 million U.S. lawyers. Mr. Mitchell is also the recipient of the prestigous Leadership in Law award for 2010. This award is given to the Top 50 attorneys in New Orleans as judged by a panel of professionals at New Orleans City Business Magazine. Mr. Mitchell was also named to the American Trial Lawyers Top 100 trial lawyers from 2007-2011.

In the November 2011 edition of New Orleans Magazine, Mr. Mitchell was recognized as one of only four attorneys as the top lawyers in Medical Malpractice Law.

In December 2010 and 2009, Mr. Mitchell was also named as one of the Top Lawyers in Medical Malpractice by New Orleans Magazine.

Mr. Mitchell was also the 2006-2007 Chairman of the Medical Malpractice Section of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Mitchell was one of 10 members of the Executive Committee of the Louisiana Association For Justice for two years, 2010-2011.
