Gainesville, GA native. Graduated from Sewanee--The University of the South in 1981, and from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1984, when was admitted to practice in Georgia. Spent 2 years as the judicial law clerk for the Northeastern Judicial Circuit, 9 years as a full-time prosecutor with the DA's office in the Northeastern Judicial Circuit, and 13 years as a part-time prosecutor as the Solicitor of Gainesville Municipal Court, and 16 years as a criminal defense attorney. Also active in the local community.
