Personal Injury Automobile accidents are a subset of a class of cases we handle, which in law school are called negligence cases. However, in everyday speak we call these accident cases. They involve a person being injured and someone else having negligently caused those injuries. Money is collected on these cases based upon the degree of physical injuries caused initially and residually (long term), the pain and suffering, and economic losses like the inability to be able to go to work or the need to hire others to do things for you as directly related to the accident. As your attorney, we hire experts to prove all of these points. Social Security Disability Social security cases fall into two classes: social security disability (SSD); and social security income (SSI). Broadly speaking SSD is applied for when you have a work history and you can no longer do any form of meaningful work because of an injury or illness. SSI is applied for when you have an injury or illness and can not work and satisfy the requirement of essentially being impoverished which translates at the time this writing to having total assets less than $3,500.00. A good example, though horrible in fact, is a child born without any eyesight will qualify for SSI.
