Canada's New Express Entry Platform: What the Changes Mean for Indian Applicants
11/4/2026
Canada is preparing to modernize its immigration system through a new digital platform for Express Entry. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is developing a new Expression of Interest (EOI) system and an improved online account to simplify application management and communication.

For Indian applicants, these developments are important because India remains one of the largest sources of Express Entry candidates and permanent residents. However, the platform modernization does not automatically change immigration eligibility or CRS scores.

What Is Changing in Express Entry?

IRCC is developing a new digital platform to replace older technology and improve immigration services. The changes include a new online account and an Expression of Interest system for managing Express Entry applications.

The current Express Entry programs remain relevant:

Federal Skilled Worker Program

Canadian Experience Class

Federal Skilled Trades Program

A portion of the Provincial Nominee Program

The new platform is primarily a technological upgrade, not an entirely new immigration pathway.

What Are the 2026 CRS Changes?

IRCC has announced CRS changes effective November 3, 2026, including points for qualifying job offers in eligible high-wage occupations. Depending on the applicable criteria, eligible offers may receive 50, 70 or 100 CRS points without requiring an LMIA.

Other proposed reforms, including consolidating the three federal high-skilled programs into one Federal High Skilled program, remain under consideration.

What Do the Changes Mean for Indian Applicants?

Indian applicants will continue using the same Express Entry system as candidates from other countries. Their eligibility depends on factors such as:

English or French language proficiency

Educational qualifications and ECA

Skilled work experience

Canadian work experience

Eligible occupation and category requirements

CRS score and selection criteria

The 2026 category-based selection system also includes healthcare, education, STEM, trades, transport, French-language proficiency and other eligible categories.

How Should Applicants Prepare?

Applicants should prepare their documents and review their eligibility rather than waiting for the new platform. Important steps include checking language test validity, arranging educational credential assessments, reviewing employment records, confirming NOC classifications and calculating CRS scores using official IRCC resources.
