Why Louisiana Court Records are Available to the Public?
In 1940, the Louisiana State Legislature passed a law named the Louisiana Public Records Act. This law has been updated for more time through the years; it is the bigger changes in 1974 and aims to make sure disclosure of court records and other public records to the public.
What Court Records Access Means To You?
The law is similar to the Louisiana Open Meeting Law legislates the methods by which public meetings are held at the Louisiana Public Records Act states that no person shall be denied the right to check public documents except in cases established by law.

When the legislature enacted Louisiana Public Records Act, it expressively declared that access to information about the conduct of the people’s business is a fundamental and necessary right of every person in this state, Title 44. Indeed, in Louisiana, access to the government and court records, in particular, has a fundamental interest in citizenship and has emphasized that maxim disclosure of the conduct of governmental operations [is] promoted by the act. By promoting prompt public access to government records, the Louisiana Public Records Act is to safeguard the government's accountability to the public.
