Mr. Helmholdt is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan. Prior to becoming an attorney, he worked as a consulting engineer designing pump stations and industrial wastewater treatment facilities, and as a plant engineer supervising construction and designing fire safety systems for a major petrochemical company. He has worked closely with automotive companies and suppliers, as well as smaller companies and research universities. His work for clients has included makers of medical devices, natural resource conservation equipment, electronic communication equipment, sporting goods, semiconductor fabrication equipment, robots, automotive assembly and paint lines, automotive parts, and piezoelectric actuators.
Mr. Helmholdt concentrates his practice on patent/trademark prosecution, patent searches, validity studies, infringement opinions, and freedom to operate studies. His focus is on mechanical and electrical technologies, including automobiles and medical devices.
