Bio

I’d like to explain why I enjoy helping people who have claims against insurance companies.

Back in 1991, I was a first year law student living far from home when my mom called to tell me that she had been burglarized. She was understandably scared and upset. Fortunately nothing of sentimental value was stolen. I naively told her that her homeowners insurance will compensate her for the stolen items. Well, the insurance claims process turned out to be more difficult for my mom than the actual break in. They made her jump through all kinds of unnecessary hoops and tried to low ball her on the value of every stolen item. Her insurance company, who she had been with for over 20 years, treated her like she had done something wrong.

I did everything I could to help, but I didn’t really know how insurance companies worked, and I didn’t know what could be done to force them to treat my mom fairly. Mom and I felt helpless in the face of the company’s “take it or leave it” attitude. The way they treated my mom was unfair, and it gave me real insight into the way that insurance companies and adjusters function primarily to increase their profitability.

In the past 20 years as a personal injury attorney, I have learned how to level the playing field for people like my mom who have suffered a loss through no fault of their own. In a courtroom, insurance companies have to answer to a jury of citizens, not shareholders. While most cases do not go to trial, it is necessary to have the leverage of a trial to force the company to treat people fairly.
