VSSF has grown from a 2 lawyer firm (Van Siclen & Stocks) to an 8 attorney firm consisting of lawyers who have an excellent reputation of highly competent, aggressive, and reasonable representation. This includes addressing most legal issues one could face: family law, criminal defense, police brutality, civil rights, employment & discrimination law, personal injury, wrongful death, malpractice, and other areas for individuals and businesses. VSSF can take on any opposition, and they often represent people over the course of their "legal life", addressing any legal issues or concerns that may arise. By getting results and closure, clients return to VSSF for help on a variety of issues. Some cases are simple, but most are very highly emotional and stressful for the client.
For example, we handled a false arrest case by defending our client at a jury trial; the client was so relieved when the jury came back with a resounding "not guilty" verdict that he began to cry in relief. Later, he asked us to pursue a reverse civil lawsuit for violation of his civil rights and because of police misconduct, resulting in a settlement of six figures. Several years later, that same client got in a car accident and asked VSSF to address it (not his fault), settling the case promptly and for 4 times what the insurance company offered him. He then asked for Estate Planning help, and VSSF finished his Will and helped him incorporate his business.
Same with Family Law: it can be emotional and difficult, and our goal at our law firm is to make any case (divorce, custody, child support) not only something that involves a finite, clear process that has closure, but puts a party back on his/her feet to pursue the rest of their lives.
Also, Personal Injury cases can be painful for most clients who suffer catastrophic injuries (car accidents, wrongful death, malpractice, employment discrimination). Our goal is to focus on the legal issues while our clients do their best to heal. Studies show that a victim of a personal injury receive 3 times the normal settlement with insurance companies than those without a lawyer (studies done by the insurance defense bar).
Criminal charges cause the most stress & at first, clients only see a dark and hopeless future. Our known success reaches back many years with a high percentage of not guilty acquittals. This causes prosecutors to offer better deals.
Not all clients have multiple legal issues and focus must be on reducing them. VSSF makes sure that you feel comfortable coming in to the firm to ask about any issue involving the law.

Bio
John S. Stocks has found success in most fields of the law, including criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation. Winning at all levels of all courts, including district court, superior court, court of appeals, and federal district courts, John enjoys and thrives at trial - he likes jury and family law trials the most. Over the past 20 years, he has represented over 2,000 individuals or business, ranging from a simple traffic or misdemeanor charge, up to most felonies. He has done hundreds of family law hearings, trials, and mediations. John was also on the team of lawyers that obtained the first every jury verdict against a Washington Sheriff's office, where the jury awarded well over 7 figures for negligent and improper investigation of innocent people, who spent unwarranted time in jail and were separated from their children. Now, as an original shareholder in the law firm including two (2) attorneys, known as Van Siclen & Stocks, John has been a part of the growth of this firm, acquiring many of the top law school graduates and those that fit the law firm's profile of zealous, competent, unmatched representation, focusing on protecting the rights of all individuals and addressing legal issues from the simple to the complex.
Personal: John S. Stocks was born in Olympia, WA @ the old St. Peter's hospital, located in the heart of the State Capital of Washington, where he and his 4 older siblings were raised on 5 acres in the Boston Harbor area, which is along the Budd Inlet (most southern tip of Puget Sound waters). Graduating from Olympia High School where he excelled in music, baseball, and academics, he then obtained a music scholarship to attend Centralia College for 2 years, where he graduated with high honors and was an original member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity. Then he transfer to the University of Washington, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. Immediately thereafter, he attended University of Puget Sound School of Law where in his first year, he was in the top 15 students based on grades, allowing him to graded onto the Law Review (top 2.5%). John graduated law school and passed the at age 24. John lives in King County, where he has pursued his entire legal career.
